KOL Normal Quest Walkthrough (Softcore)

This is for no path or BIG!, since there are variations for the other types of challenge paths. It should still work pretty much the same, but the skills, food or drink strategies will be different. This guide does not include all possible paths, just the ones I prefer to use.

If you're on the BIG challenge path, you could immediately go to the Spooky Raven manor and unlock the ballroom. Then get the Strung Up Quartet (every 20 turns, then a 50% chance of getting this one, so lower combat frequency) and choose Play 'Sono Un Amanten Non Un Combattente'.

I always ascend as under a Knoll sign for the meatcar.

They don't have to be done in order, just as long as they all get done.

There's a factors list for each quest which speeds up the quest, and I'll put in red things you can do earlier for quest preparation if you feel like it.

Use KOLMafia and then you don't have to remember specific items to use and that kind of thing. And if you have Ezandora's Guide script, then you won't need a walkthrough (unless there's a change that hasn't been spaded yet)

Note (07/24/2015): I haven't updated this in a while, so I don't know what's out of date.

Getting the liver of steel:
If possible, do this on the first day. It's nice to have some extra room.

Comedy Club:
Talk to Mourn. Boost combat frequency and item drops to get the 5 imp airs and fight the three special enemies. With the observational glasses equipped, choose "try some observational humor".

Hey Deze Arena
Talk to Sven Golly. Lower combat frequency and raise item drops to get the 5 bus passes and get the items for the band members from noncombats. I don't remember who gets what since I just use Mafia.

Moaning Panda Square
With 5 each of imp airs and bus passes, talk to the guy here.

Semi-rares to consider:
black eyedrops from the library for spooky resistance for A-Boo Peak
inhaler from top floor of castle for meat drops for the nuns on the island
knob goblin guard outfit from barracks or kitchen for the Cobb's Knob Quest
lunchbox from outskirts of Cobb's Knob, for food
stone wool from hidden temple for unlocking hidden city
cyclops eyedrops from the limerick dungeon for item drops

Level 2
Spooky Forest Quest
Location: Spooky Forest

Factors: lower combat frequency to get non-combat

1) Adventure in the Spooky Forest until you get the non-combat Arboreal Respite.
2) Choose Explore the stream, then March to the marsh.

Level 3
Typical Tavern Quest
Location: Distant Woods

Factors: raise combat frequency to increase chances of getting a drunken rat king (which can drop tangles of rat tails, usable against tomb rats to increase the drops of tomb ratchets)

Talk to the bartender, then go into the basement and find the faucet.

Level 4
Boss Bat Quest
Location: The Nearby Plains

1) Get stench resistance.

2) Open up the three areas by using 3 sonars-in-a-biscuit or defeating screambats. You can use a clover to get 2 sonars and maybe pulling one or getting a drop from a bat. Also consider getting an enchanted bean from a beanbat in the Beanbat Chamber for a future quest.

3) Go to the Boss Bat's Lair and defeat bodyguards and the Boss Bat.

Level 5
The King of Cobb's Knob Quest
Location: The Nearby Plains

1) Adventure in the Outskirts of Cobb's Knob until you get a Knob Goblin encryption key. This is not affected by combat frequency modifiers so don't bother.

2a) Pull a harem veil and harem pants, then adventure once in the harem to get the perfume effect.
2b) Line up the semi-rare so you get the knob goblin guard outfit from the barracks, then adventure with it on in the kitchens to get the cake (which you have to cook).

3) Enter the Throne Room and defeat the Knob Goblin King.

Level 6
Deep Fat Friars' Gate Quest
Location: The Distant Woods

Factors: lower combat frequency to get non-combats

Lower your combat frequency and adventure in the Dark Neck in the Woods, the Dark Heart of the Woods, and the Dark Elbow of the Woods to get a dodecagram, box of birthday candles, and an eldritch butterknife. Go to the gate in the middle.

You can also get 3 hot wings for the frat boy blueprints part later.

Level 7
Undefile the Cyrpt Quest
Location: The Nearby Plains

You have to lower the evil level to 25 in each section to fight a mini-boss.

Factors: Raise item drop, lower combat frequency, raise monster level, raise combat initiative

Nook: Increase item drop or pickpocket it to get the evil eye. Using it lowers the evil level by 3.

Cranny: Reduce combat frequency and increase monster level (by at least 16 to get more beeps) to get the noncombat Death Rattlin' and open the rattling one and defeat a swarm of ghoul whelps.

Alcove: Increase combat initiative to fight more modern zombies.

Niche: Use Transcendant Olfaction or the Nosy Nose to sniff the dirty old lihc.

Then go to the Haert of the Crypt to defeat the Bonerdagon.

Level 8
Mt. McLargeHuge Quest
Location: The Big Mountains

Factors: raise item drops, lower combat frequency

1) Talk to John the Trapper.

2) Get 3 ore of whatever type he wants and 3 goat cheese. I usually pull the ore and adventure to get the cheese, which is dropped by dairy goats.

3) Pull the eXtreme scarf, the snowboarder pants and the eXtreme mittens and wear them.

4) Lower your combat frequency, then adventure in the extreme slope until you get the three non-combats Discovering Your Extremity, 2 eXXtreme 4 U, and 3 eXXXtreme 4ever 6pack.

5) Go to the Mist-Shrouded Peak and defeat the 3 yetis and Groar.

In between stuff:
This isn't strictly part of a quest, but I usually get to the Mysterious Island to get a dictionary from the bookstore on the island.

A few methods~

Via the Shore:

Adventure 3 times to get 3 Shore Inc. Ship Trip Scrip and buy the dinghy plans. Buy the dingy planks from the General Store and then use the plans. I would suggest this method.

Via skeletons:
If you have access to a bone garden, then use 7 to get a skeletal skiff.

You can now get to the island.

Pull an eyepatch, swashbuckling pants and a stuffed shoulder parrot, equip them and buy a dictionary from the bookstore. Untinker the dictionary to get a bridge (easiest done if you are under a sign that allows access to the Degrassi Knoll).

Untinker:
1) Visit the untinker's shack to get the quest to find the screwdriver.
2) If you have access to the inside of the knoll, visit Innabox to get the screwdriver then return to the Untinker to unlock untinkering.
3) If you don't, adventure in the knoll's garage until you get a screwdriver.

Level 9
Orc Chasm Quest
Location: The Big Mountains

Factors: raise item drops, have spooky and cold resistance, raise monster level, lower combat frequency, have stench resistance, have +50% item drops that aren't from a familiar, raise combat initiative

1) Get a bridge from a dictionary and pull and use a smut orc keepsake box to get half the bridge built. The keepsake box is optional, because this usually takes at least 21 adventures anyway, so you'd get one from a smut orc pervert anyway.
2) Optionally pull a logging hatchet and loadstone to increase the amount of lumber and fasteners per combat.
3) Cross the bridge.

There are three signal fires in the Highlands.

Light A-Boo Peak - The hauntedness starts at 98%. If you use an A-Boo clue and prevent spooky and cold damage, you can lower the hauntedness by 2- 30% depending on how long you survive The Horror... adventure. Each ghost killed reduces the hauntedness by 2%. You can use a clover to get 2 clues.

My strategy here is to use a semi-rare to get the black eyedrops from the Haunted Library, and wear the extreme gear to get cold resistance, plus any extra elemental resistance I happen to have.

Light Oil Peak
1) Boost Monster Level. The ranges are 0-19(reduces by 1 slick), 20-49 (reduces by 3 slicks), 50-99 (reduces by 5 slicks), and 100+ (reduces by 10 slicks).
2) Optionally wear dress pants to lower the oil further per adventure.
3) Defeat the equivalent of 49 oil slicks.

Light Twin Peak
1) Lower combat frequency to get non-combat.
2) Get the non-combat or use rusty hedge trimmers to automatically get the non-combat.

Lost in the Great Overlook Lodge:
1) Investigate Room 237 with 4 levels of stench resistance. A warscarf from this year's Crimbo will help out with this. + any skills you have for elemental resistance, and possibly the pants of the slug lord (+2).
2) Search the Pantry with +50% item drops that aren't from any type of familiar. I use the Brother Flying Burrito's Blessing (+30) from the Fat Friar's Gate and wear the bounty helmet (+20).
3) Use 12 bubbling crude from the oil peak to get a jar of oil. Follow the faint sound of music.
4) Choose Wait -- who's that? with +40% combat initiative. There are various ways of getting this, either from playing stylishly at the pool table in the VIP room, using the correct Pasta thrall, the passive DB skill, an AT facial expression, etc. If you have pulled a boots of twilight whispers, that is 25% and you might have drops from elsewhere.

Level 10
Giant Trash Quest
Location: The Nearby Plains

Factors: lower combat frequency, raise item drops, stench and hot resistance.

1) Get an enchanted bean and use it.

2) Adventure in the Penultimate Fantasy Airship until you get the 5 noncombat adventures (Tissue Paper, Gauze, Tin Foil and Plastic Wrap Materia and the S.O.C.K.) If you get a Random Lack of an Encounter noncombat, choose to Gallivant down to the head to get a model airship. Lowering combat frequency has an effect, but you have to spend at least 25 adventures in the airship to get all 5 non-combats anyway.

3) Adventure in the Basement.
There are three good ways of getting to the ground floor.

i) In the You Don't Mess Around with Gym noncombat, you grab a dumbbell, then in the Out in the Open Source noncombat, you check out the dumbwaiter.

ii) You wear an amulet of extreme plot significance (this drops from a Quiet Healer in the Fantasy Airship) and choose to check out the mirror in the You Don't Mess Around with Gym noncombat. If you forgot to equip it, choose to leave through the basement window, equip it, and adventure in the basement again to get this noncombat again.

iii) You equip a titanium assault umbrella (dropped by a spunky princess in the Fantasy Airship) and choose to crawl through a heating duct in The Fast and the Furry-ous noncombat. If you happen to not have it equipped, choose to leave through a mousehole, equip the umbrella, and adventure in the basement again.

There's a way of getting to each non-combat from the others, but I can't remember the exact path, since I use mafia.

4) Adventure 11 times in the ground floor to unlock the top floor. During this time, try to get the Home on the Free Range noncombat and choose to investigate the noisy drawer.

5) In the top floor, there are 3 good ways of getting the wheel to finish this quest.

Lower combat frequency.

Melon Collie and Copper Feel are connected by their last option (Go through the crack and Gimme Steam), as are Flavor of a Raver and Punk Rock Giant (Check behind the poster and Look behind the poster).

i) If you have a model airship, choose to harrumph in disdain in the Copper Feel noncombat.

ii) Choose to raid the crate in the Flavor of a Raver noncombat, then Change up the music in the Melon Collie noncombat.

iii) Wear a mohawk wig and choose to get the punk's attention in the Yeah, You're for Me, Punk Rock Giant noncombat.

Special Note: If you plan on doing the flyer quest in the Level 12 island quest, you might consider doing the palindrome part of the level 11 quest first to unlock level 12, then getting the flyers while on the frat warrior side. Then you can flyer everything else on the level 11 quest and save turns.

Level 11
Quest for the Holy MacGuffin
Location: Various

Factors: Lower combat frequency, olfaction or nosy nose, increase item drops

1) Get the non-combat that gives you a black map. -CF to help it happen.

2) Get sunken eyes from a black adder and broken wings from a black panther in the Black Forest to make a Reassembled Blackbird if you don't have one already. Equip the blackbird as your familiar. The blackbird will still function in inventory if you are a class that can't equip familiars.

3) Get the non-combat, go blackberry patch -> buzzing sound -> then survive the bees to get a beehive.

4) Fight in the Black Forest until you find the Black Market. Increase combat frequency to decrease useless non-combats.

5) Buy the forged identification documents at the Black Market for 5000 meat. Also buy a can of black paint.

6) Vacation at the shore to get the diary.

7) Read the diary.

I: Hidden Temple

Lower combat frequency.

Get arboreal respite in spooky forest (4)
- explore the stream, squeeze into cave.
- brave thicket, follow coin, insert coin.
- brave thicket, investigate foliage.
- follow old road, talk to hunter, buy tree (100 meat), then take your leave.
- use the map to unlock the temple.

Use stone wool, choose explore the higher levels, then climb down vines.

Use another stone wool, choose poke around the ground floor, go down stairs, lightning tailed guy, go through the door, and raise your hands. Spell bananas on the tiles. Then choose Do nothing.

II: Hidden City

Either get an antique machete from a noncombat in the Hidden Park or pull a machete of some kind. Other than the antique machete, the muculent machete, papier-machete, or machetito will work.

Equip it and clear the four shrines plus the ziggurat, which takes 5 adventures.

Optional: Knock over the dumpster in the in the hidden park to remove janitors from the other zones.

At the end of each zone, you fight an ancient protector spirit as in the old version of this quest.

1) Hidden Apartment Building
Become cursed three times (Thrice-Cursed effect) by fighting a pygmy shaman, choosing to go to the mezzanine in the noncombat, or drinking a cursed punch in the hidden tavern, which is accessed by using a book of matches dropped by a pygmy janitor.

You may also encounter pygmy witch accountants which drop McClusky files. You'll need those later.

Then get the noncombat and choose to go to the penthouse.

2) Hidden Hospital

Wear a bloodied surgical dungarees, surgical apron, half-size scalpel, head mirror or surgical mask (all dropped by enemies in the Hidden Hospital) to get the You, M.D. noncombat. If you wear more than one, it increases the chances.

3) Hidden Office Building

With 5 McClusky files dropped from accountants, get the noncombat and choose raid the supply cabinet to get a boring binder clip. If for some reason you get the noncombat before you have the files, choose to fight with a cubicle drone to fight an accountant. If a briefcase drops, save one for a future quest.

Use the clip then get the noncombat again and knock on the boss's office door.

4) Hidden Bowling Alley

Get 5 bowling balls from pygmy bowlers (or pull them) They automatically trigger the noncombat. The last one will trigger the fight with the protector spirit.

Put a sphere in each shrine to get stone triangles.

Adventure in the Massive Ziggurat to fight the last spirit and get the spectre scepter and the ancient amulet.

III: Spooky Raven

Go to Kitchen. Increase hot and stench resistance to open more drawers per combat (up to 4 drawers each). Fight until you find the Billiards Room key.

Go to Billiards Room. Increase pool skill by practicing pool, challenging the ghost, equipping pool cue, having chalky hand, etc. It is believed the optimal drunkenness level is 10. Get the library key.

Go to the library and fight desks until you find the necklace.

Bathroom, get a non-combat.

Bedroom, beat up nightstands to get the choices after them.
For the ornate nightstand, look behind to get Lord Spookyraven's glasses, and under it to get a camera.
Kill an elegant nightstand and choose the first choice to get the dress.

Gallery, you have to find the dancing shoes by getting through the maze.

Via stumpsmcgee:

Pick anything at the first choice and go to a random painting. Based on that, choose the directions in the following order, ignoring what the direction is and choosing only by whether the option is the first or second choice.

Clocks - 1
Diner - 2,1
Venus - 2,2,1
Grid - 1,2,2,2,1
God/Adam - 1,2,2,1
Boats - 1,2,1
Scream - 2,2,1
Toga - 2,2,1
Last supper - 2,1

This unlocks the ballroom. The third floor is not required. Adventure in the ballroom until you get the non-combat.

Via KingBobson:

Get Spookyraven's spectacles and equip them and look the wall.

Use the list you get, and there should be a glowing green scrawl under the regular list that informs you of the shortcut to this quest.

Fight wine racks in the wine cellar until you have the vinegar and cabinets in the laundry until you have the blasting powder. Then cook them together and equip. Then raise ML and fight in the boiler room until it tells you that the mixture has reached reaction temperature (66 degrees). Blow up the wall.

Make sure you have at least 3 resistance to all elements, then fight Lord Spookyraven. You might be able to survive without doing this, but your HP might be low, so make sure to kill him quickly.

IV: Palindrome

There are two ways of unlocking the Palindrome, though I think the way through the Copperhead Club and Zeppelin can only be started at level 11. I don't like that, and that's why that method is not detailed here.

You already have access to the island, so equip your swashbuckling outfit and buy a book of insults.

Remember to use the book of insults on pirates as much as you can. About 6 different insults should give you a good chance to have the correct retorts for Beer Pong later.

You and the cap'm make it hap'm - use map, get nasty booty

Blueprints (3 ways)
1) Wear a mullet wig. You probably have a briefcase from the Hidden City. Don't use the briefcase, just have one in inventory. Use the blueprints and choose to go through a side door.
2) Wearing a Frat Boy Ensemble (baseball cap, frat-paddle, cargo shorts) will also work if you choose attempt a frontal assault.
3) A third option is to wear a frilly skirt and have three hot wings and choose catburgle.

You should get dentures.

Get back in your swashbuckling outfit. You need to beat the pirate at Beer Pong. If you don't succeed, then go back and use the book on more pirates to get more retorts.

List of insults and their retorts

Arrr, the power of me serve'll flay the skin from yer bones! - Obviously neither your tongue nor your wit is sharp enough for the job.

Do ye hear that, ye craven blackguard? It be the sound of yer doom! - It can't be any worse than the smell of your breath!

Suck on this, ye miserable, pestilent wretch! - That reminds me, tell your wife and sister I had a lovely time last night.

The streets will run red with yer blood when I'm through with ye! - I'd've thought yellow would be more your color.

Yer face is as foul as that of a drowned goat! - I'm not really comfortable being compared to your girlfriend that way.

When I'm through with ye, ye'll be crying like a little girl! - It's an honor to learn from such an expert in the field.

In all my years I've not seen a more loathsome worm than yerself! - Amazing! How do you manage to shave without using a mirror?

Not a single man has faced me and lived to tell the tale! - It only seems that way because you haven't learned to count to one.

This unlocks the F'cle. Increase your item drops and get and use the mizzenmast mop, ball polish and rigging shampoo. On the next adventure in there, you get pirate fledges. Equip that in an accessory slot and then you can equip other things in the hat and pants slots and still adventure in the pirate areas.

Go down to the poop deck and get It's always Swordfish noncombat adventure.

Go down to the belowdecks and get 2 gaudy keys. Use them and then paste together the resulting charms. Equip the Talisman O'Nam to reveal the Palindrome on the Nearby Plains.

Use disposable camera on Bob Racecar or Racecar Bob to get a photo of a dog, and try to get stunt nuts. I pull a wet stew then cook it with the stunt nuts.
Get 3 non-combats (I don't think they are affected by combat frequency modifiers) to get photo of red nugget, God and ostrich egg.
Get and use an I Love Me, Vol. I, from Bob Racecar, Racecar Bob, or the Drab Bard.

At Dr. Awkward's office in the Palindrome, put the photos in the order:

Shelf #1: photograph of God
Shelf #2: photograph of a red nugget
Shelf #3: photograph of a dog
Shelf #4: photograph of an ostrich egg

Use 2 Love Me, Vol. 2.
Make and give wet stunt nut stew to Mr. Alarm at his office in the Palindrome.

Equip a Mega Gem and fight Dr. Awkward at his office.

V: Desert

The point here is to reach 100% exploration in the desert.

To speed up this adventure, go on one vacation at the shore and get a U.V. compass and equip it while doing this part.

Adventure in the desert. This will unlock the Oasis, so you can go there to become ultrahydrated. Adventure in the desert while ultrahydrated until you find Gnasir at 10% exploration.

You can give him a stone rose (from an oasis noncombat), the can of black paint, and a killing jar dropped from a banshee librarian in the haunted library to get pamphlets that when used give you 45% exploration.

Adventure in the desert, remembering to return to the Oasis to get ultrahydrated if you run out (if you use a clover, you get 20 turns of ultrahydrated). The monsters can drop worm-riding pages. If you find all 15 of them and haven't finished the exploration to 100%, you can use the worm-riding hooks and a drum machine  (from a blur in the oasis) to get 30% exploration.

VI: Pyramid

Paste together the Staff of Ed. (ancient amulet + eye of Ed = headpiece. Headpiece + staff of fats = Staff of Ed)

In the pyramid:

Upper Chamber - Lower combat frequency to get adventure to unlock middle chamber

Middle Chamber - Unlock lower chamber and control room via 2 scheduled non-combats. Raise item drop to get tomb ratchets.

Rotate Lower Chambers - Either lower combat frequency and adventure in the upper chamber to get crumbling wooden wheels or get tomb ratchets from the tomb rats of the middle chamber. You can also pull the tomb ratchets.

Use the wheels or tomb ratchets in the control room to rotate the lower chambers. Choose to go to the lower chambers after each rotation set.

Rotate 3 times so the empty room and coin are connected.
Rotate 4 times so the bomb and stairs are connected.
Rotate 3 times so the stairs and empty room are connected.

Beat Ed in the burial chamber seven times to get the Macguffin.

Level 12
Mysterious Island Quest
Location: Mysterious Island

Factors: decrease combat frequency, increase combat frequency, increase item drops, increase meat drops

You must have unlocked the Palindrome to get this quest.

Wear either the frat warrior fatigues (beer helmet, distressed denim pants, bejeweled pledge pin) or the war hippy fatigues (reinforced beaded headband, bullet-proof corduroys, round purple sunglasses) and adventure in the opposite base until you get a specific noncombat (lower combat frequency).

For hippies in the frat house, you get the noncombat Fratacombs. Start the war by heading to the roof.

For frats in the hippy camp, you get the noncombat Blockin' Out the Scenery. Start the war by choosing the Lookout Tower.

Depending on your resources, you can choose either side. I usually do the frat side because I want to use the meat buff from doing the island arena for the nuns. As for the sidequests, the ones that are usually skipped are the beach (unless you have fax access and plan ahead to get the lobsterfrogmen), the nuns (it might not be worth it if you have no good sources of meat drop), and the ducks (which take a minimum of 25 adventures).

Sidequests

1) Mysterious Island Arena

Visiting here will give you rock band flyers if you're wearing the frat warrior fatigues, or jam band flyers if you're wearing the war hippy fatigues. Use the flyers on enemies until you've flyered the equivalent of 10,000 ML.

A Guy Made of Bees (he will appear on the 5th summoning attempt in the Haunted Bathroom) is worth 10,000 ML. Without also using antique hand mirror at the same time (from the Investigate the Jewelry option after fighting a wooden nightstand in the Haunted Bedroom), this will kill you.

You could use an agua de vida bottle and use the flyer on Cyrus the Virus in the Primordial Soup area.

Or, as I said earlier, you could have got these early and then used them on enemies during the level 11 quest. Or if you're in BIG, on any other of the quests.

2) The Junkyard

Yossarian will tell you what tool he's looking for and where it is. A specific attack message will appear (saying that the enemy whips out the tool) and you use the molybdenum magnet to retrieve the tool. If it doesn't have the tool, then it will show a different attack message.

batwinged gremlin - barrel - hammer
     - no tool = it does a bombing run
erudite gremlin - tires - wrench
     - no tool = it makes an automatic eyeball-peeler
spider gremlin - fridge - pliers
     - no tool = it bites you in the fibula
veg. gremlin - car - screwdriver
     - no tool = it picks a beet/radish off itself

3) Recover the Lighthouse Keeper's Gunpowder

If you have a good way to increase combat frequency, then do this quest. Otherwise, it might be really annoying because the noncombat rate in there is very high.

Fight 5 lobsterfrogmen to get the barrels to give to the lighthouse keeper. Of course, if you have access to the fax, you can fax in a lobsterfrogman. Or you can use a 4-d camera during combat with one to copy it. Then use the shaking camera to fight another one. In order to avoid having to increase combat frequency, fax a lobsterfrogman and use a 4-d camera for 2 days and then fax another on the 3rd day.

In between the next three sidequests, you must defeat a set number of hippies to activate the sidequest.

Hover over the image on the right side to see the image number, which tracks approximately how many hippies have been defeated.

After image 7,

4) The Organic Orchard

Increase your item drop and defeat the filthworms to get glands to use to open the next chamber, as long as the gland's effect lasts. Keep going and defeat the queen. So you need to use a hatchling gland to access the feeding chamber, a drone gland to access the guard chamber, and royal guard gland to access the queen's chamber. If the gland effect runs out, you have to get another gland and use it again. This might mean starting over if your luck is really bad.

After image 14,

5) Recover the Sister's Meat

In order to increase your meat drop, you can use an inhaler, get winklered from the arena, use the summoning chamber, and wear a natty ascot. There are lots of ways. Defeat the bandits until the nuns say you've retrieved all the meat.

After image 21,

6) Defowl the Farm

Use the chaos butterfly in combat.

When the non-combat shows up, choose the third choice (make a fence). On the next non-combat, choose the first choice (knock over the lantern), and on the next one choose the second choice (dump out the drum).

Then defeat ducks in the three areas.

Level 13
Naughty Sorceress Quest
Location: NS Tower

What you'll need:

Boris, Jarlsberg, Sneaky Pete's, digital, and star keys by eating the pies.

In hardcore, get Boris, Jarlsberg and Sneaky Pete keys by doing the Daily Dungeon, which can be sped up using drops from the Gelatinous Cubeling.

Digital key - This needs 30 white pixels. Visit the Crackpot Mystic in the Forest Village.

Star key - Hole in the Sky

Skeleton key - You probably have enough to make this from the cyrpt quest. Paste together a skeleton bone and loose teeth.

Wand of Nagamar: use a clover in the castle basement.

Registration Desk
Three of:

elemental damage (5 types)
muscle/moxie/myst
combat initiative

Hedge Maze
elemental resistance with shortcuts, or take the path given.

Tower Levels

Level 1: beehive from noncombat. Blackberry patch -> buzzing sound -> survive
Level 2: high meat drop
Level 3: electric boning knife from Home on the Free Range noncombat in Castle's ground floor. Choose "investigate the noisy drawer." I think the chance of this increases after you get to the tower, if you hadn't gotten it when doing the Castle quest.
Level 4: gaze unless you like your bosses to have more HP
Level 5: the shadow, heal yourself with gauze garters etc.

After that is the NS, which hasn't caused me problems unless I don't have enough moxie.
